Strature Advisory · Briefings and presentations

The picture, presented to the people who have to decide.

In person or by video: a published brief, an exposure edition or the deliverables of an engagement, presented to a board, a committee or a leadership team, with the questions worked through in the room.

The room

A document is read by one person at a time. A decision is taken by several at once.

The written work is the product: sourced, dated, printed with its conflicts. But a board or a leadership team decides in a room, in one sitting, and what it needs there is the picture reduced to what reaches it, put by someone who can be questioned on every figure. Every figure on a slide is the same figure in the record behind it, and the written record stays behind so that what was said in the room can be read again and checked against its sources.

THE SOURCE ยท ONE OF THREE PUBLISHEDbrief EXPOSUREedition ENGAGEMENTdeliverables THE DECKThe front page and its figures as slides. THE SESSION In person or by video, with questions. Decisions written down, with owner and date. THE WRITTEN RECORDWhat was said, checkable against its sources. One figure: slide, room and record.
One source, one deck, one session, one record. Whatever the briefing is built from, it passes through the same path, so nothing said in the room lives only in the room. The accent marks the session, where decisions are taken.
  • On a published briefThe question the brief answers, its evidence and its forecasts, presented as published, to everyone in the room alike. The brief is not adapted for the audience and is not applied to any attendee’s holdings or investments.
  • On an exposure editionThe edition’s front page, the items that carry dates and the places that carry the weight, presented to the people who own the actions. A figure on a slide is the figure in the edition.
  • As part of an engagementThe position, the scenarios and the options to consider from an engagement, argued with the board or team that asked for them. Decisions taken in the room are written down with an owner and a date.

A board session, a leadership briefing, a scenario session worked through with the people who would have to act, or any of these by video where the room cannot be gathered: the audience, the material and the time available are agreed first, and the fee per engagement.

What a briefing is not

Presented, not applied.

A briefing on a published brief presents the brief as published. It does not apply the brief to any attendee’s portfolio, holdings or investment decisions, and no question of that kind is answered in the room. Nothing said in any briefing is investment, legal, tax or accounting advice, and Strature never recommends buying, selling or holding any security. Every probability is our estimate, scored when it resolves.

Briefings are given to organisations only, for business purposes, and never to a foreign state or an organisation owned or controlled by one. The Strature Advisory page sets out the terms every engagement shares.
