How this map is made

Each day we read official public feeds, keep the items that touch a country with a Strature page, a chokepoint or one of our open forecasts, and the Strature editor approves the list before it is published. Machine-coded news reports are never published on their own: one appears only after a second, independent source confirms it.

Official alerts are issued automatically by their agencies and may change; they do not replace national authorities. We never copy casualty figures from a feed. Modelled impacts are labelled as estimates by their agency. Country names imply no position on sovereignty. General information, not advice.
