A parts shortage stops a Czech car line for two weeks

The test Between 28 Oct 2026 and 27 Oct 2027, a shortage of supplied parts stops all output of at least one car model at a Czech passenger-car plant (Mladá Boleslav, Kvasiny, Nošovice or Kolín) for at least ten consecutive working days; planned shutdowns and cuts to some shifts do not count.

Impact is the average of the four parts, rounded, plus one point when Canada is directly hit on two or more channels, up to 10.

Two separate scales from 1 to 10. Strature never multiplies or merges them.

What changed

Dated, newest first

  1. Jan-Sep 2026 passenger cars 1,095,937 (+0.6%); Škoda 733,954 (+4%); Hyundai 196,660 (-8.1%); Toyota 165,323 (-2.8%); over 92% exported [6]
  2. Union paper reports parts problems for the Kodiaq at Kvasiny [5]
  3. Škoda partially reducing shifts depending on parts for each model; Jan-Aug Škoda built 147,288 battery-electric cars at its Czech plants [4]
  4. Night shifts at Mladá Boleslav (Enyaq, Elroq) gone, pay at four-fifths; later strikes hit the Zhytomyr plant again [3]

Why it matters

Czech plants built 1,095,937 passenger cars in January to September, 92% of them for export. A Russian strike on 9 Aug halted a wiring-harness plant near Zhytomyr in Ukraine that supplies Volkswagen group brands, Škoda among them. From about 1 Oct some shifts at Mladá Boleslav have been cut for lack of parts. A model has not yet stopped for two weeks; in 2022 the same kind of Ukrainian shortage stopped one Czech model for eight weeks.

Why Likelihood 4 Pushes: the Zhytomyr plant halted and hit again; the war continues; thin harness substitutes. Brakes: relocation took about five weeks in 2022; output still rose in 2026.

Why Impact 3 Threshold case: one model stopped for ten working days.

The other facts on file (8)
  • Russian strike on 9 Aug 2026 hit a Kromberg & Schubert wiring-harness plant in Zhytomyr Oblast; work suspended indefinitely; supplies European carmakers, Volkswagen and Škoda among them; about 3,500 staff [1] (9 Aug 2026)
  • Automotive industry more than 9% of Czech GDP and 24% of exports (EY slides citing CzechInvest and AutoSAP) [7] (9 Jun 2022)
  • Association members employed 136,956 people in 2025 [8] (30 Jun 2026)
  • Škoda halted Mladá Boleslav and Kvasiny for a week in September 2021 over chips [9] (16 Sep 2021)
  • Enyaq stopped eight weeks from 3 Mar 2022 over Ukrainian harness shortage; harness work moved to Mladá Boleslav in about five weeks [10] (6 Jun 2022)
  • Kvasiny fully stopped for a week from 11 Sep 2023 after floods at a Slovenian supplier [11] (9 Oct 2023)
  • ACEA warned Nexperia chip stocks would last only a few weeks [12] (22 Oct 2025)
  • Czech integrated circuit imports EUR 4.35bn in 2025 [13] (2025)

How it spreads

If

Between 28 Oct 2026 and 27 Oct 2027, a shortage of supplied parts stops all output of at least one car model at a Czech passenger-car plant (Mladá Boleslav, Kvasiny, Nošovice or Kolín) for at least ten consecutive working days; planned shutdowns and cuts to some shifts do not count.

Channels 4 on the card

  1. CanadaNo Canadian loss sourced.
  2. ExportsCars are about a quarter of Czech exports (2022 figure) [7]; a two-week stop trims about half a month of that model's output (Strature's view).
  3. SuppliersCzech parts makers feeding the line lose orders (Strature's view).
  4. GermanyThe Zhytomyr plant also supplies German brands; a wider shortage is a worse case.

Three scenarios and their signposts

  1. S1

    Patched

Harness work moves to other plants, as in 2022, and shifts return.

  2. S2

    Line stops

A second part runs short and one model stops for weeks.

  3. S3

    Wider squeeze

Strikes on Ukrainian suppliers and a chip shortage hit together.

The signposts of each scenario
PathSignpost
S1Night shifts restored at Mladá Boleslav
S2A carmaker announces a full stop of a model
S3Carmakers' bodies warn of stocks lasting weeks, as in October 2025

No probability is given for the three paths.

The other side

Shorter, closer supply chains: in 2022 harness work came to Mladá Boleslav within weeks [10]. Suppliers outside Ukraine, and Czech parts makers, can win orders if carmakers move work away from war zones (Strature's view).
